Kids News Network: The Makarapa Helmet

The colourful Makarapa hard hat is a helmet worn mostly by miners and construction workers while on the job. For many years, South African children thought of this hat as what their fathers wear when they leave home for months on end to go and work in the mines. But in South Africa today, the hat is very popular amongst soccer fans and now represents something far more .
