Fans in their hundreds turned out for Bafana Bafana’s last game of the 2010 FIFA World Cup against France on June 22, 2010 in New Town Fan Park. Dressed in their yellow and green and clutching vuvuzelas, men, women and children packed the venue in support of their team.

Although football is generally viewed as a man’s sport, women nationwide have been embracing the World Cup fever that has swept the country. With South Africa being the first African nation to host the World Cup, the excitement has been contagious and the female population has refused to be left out. Whether they accompany their men to fan parks and public viewing areas, or get together with their girlfriends to watch at home, South African women have been giving football their full attention for the duration of the World Cup.
