The FIFA Fan Fest at the Grand Parade in Cape Town, and the 2.4 km fan walk from there to the Green Point Stadium were a huge hit during the 2010 Soccer World Cup.

Thousands of people made the great trek to the stadium on match days and some didn’t even have tickets, but just went along for the ride. The cobble stones from the City Hall to the stadium were walked on by men in stilts, minstrels, children, grandparents, ticket touts and fans from all over the world. This fusion of cultures was the highlight of many fans both local and international. It provided a place for supporters to congregate en route to the stadium and celebrate together by blowing their vuvuzelas and waving their flags.

The FIFA World Cup provided an opportunity for people who came from different backgrounds, had different skin colours and supported different teams to come together into one big melting pot, all for the love of the game.
