Twenty Ten: African Media on the Road to 2010 (and beyond)
Website
As part of the Twenty Ten project, this website is dedicated to reporting on African football, related issues and the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa from an African perspective. Content from African journalists – called the All Stars – representing 34 nationalities will be published on this site, including written articles, images, broadcasts and multimedia productions. During the World Cup, 18 of the participating journalists, to be known as the Dream Team, will travel to South Africa to report on the event.
Inspiration
The Twenty Ten project is inspired by the 2010 FIFA World Cup and the media opportunities this has to offer. It will be the first time that the FIFA World Cup competition takes place on the African continent. Therefore, Twenty Ten aims to give African journalists a voice, both in Africa and worldwide, by offering them an opportunity to express their own views of African reality, as opposed to depending on foreign news organizations to report African news.
Multidisciplinary
Twenty Ten is a multidisciplinary media project that will focus on strengthening African journalists’ skills in various disciplines. It aims to encourage media professionals to creatively produce and distribute written articles, images, broadcasts and multimedia productions related to African football.
Distribution of Content
Content produced by the Twenty Ten journalists before and during the World Cup will be distributed globally by Africa Media Online. This South African-based organization is dedicated to enabling African media professionals and media organizations to bring their products to the market in order to compete on an equal footing in the global marketplace. The passion of Africa Media Online is Africans telling Africa’s Story.
Products
The project will help to set up a network of African journalists from 34 countries. In addition to being published on the Twenty Ten site, the work of these journalists also will be made available through:
- A book about football in Africa
- An exhibition in Amsterdam and South Africa
- A documentary about African journalists
