Amputee football
Liberia is rebuilding after a devastating 14-year civil war that ended with a peace deal in 2003. One legacy of the civil war is the country’s legion of amputees. The amputees were initially rejected from the society for being active combatants in the war that spilled over into neighboring countries, notably Sierra Leone. Football is now serving as a useful tool for their reintegration and is even earning them heroic status.
