Desmond Zvidzai Kwande works as a freelance photojournalist for AFP in Harare. He has covered elections, food riots, farm invasions, new proceedings, cricket, tennis and soccer in Zimbabwe. He has worked with a variety of organizations including Getty Images, EPA and many NGOs. He is interested in subjects related to humanitarian (politics), features and sports. He won the CNN Multichoice African Photography of the Year 2006 award, the Zimbabwe Union of Journalists photography of the year 2005 award and sponsors an annual Gwanza Month of Photography Awards, an annual even in Zimbabwe that caters to African photographers. His hobbies include reading novels, spending time fellowshipping with his church brethrens and watching cricket.

Farm soccer

A soccer team in Mazoe, 35 km east of Harare the capital of Zimbabwe on Belgone Farm, was affected badly by Zimbabwe’s controversial land reform program. With no one to employ them and with no sponsors, the group has now resorted to dancing masked traditional dances to raise money for the team and to be able to have food on the table.
