Leonie Marinovich obtained a Bachelor of Arts in Urbanology in 1990. After working as an account manager in London then Geneva, she returned to South Africa in December 2000 to focus on documenting the subtle interaction between people and their environment. Her work has been exhibited in South Africa and Switzerland, as well as published in numerous international and local publications.

Her work was included in Portfolio SA 2003, a publication showcasing the talent of South African photographers. She was a contributor to the book Women by Women: 50 Years of Women’s Photography in South Africa. She was the project Manager and photographer for the book Prospects of Babel, New Imagery from the Congo. She did camerawork for the documentary Small Boys, Big Guns, produced the documentaries Conversations with Goldblatt and The Lord’s Children and co-produced Village of the Spirits and two inserts for CNN Inside Africa.
 
She is currently living in Johannesburg with husband Greg and children Luc and Madeline.
