Elephants play too

In Kenya, even elephants are perfecting their soccer skills at The David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust. It is not a common sight to see a herd of elephants chasing a yellow football and tackling one another for possession of the ball.

From Prison to Pitch

Handmade Soccer

Children from the pastoral tribes of Southern Ethiopia and Northern Kenya are often responsible for household and community chores. These children take advantage of what little free time they have. By wrapping plastic bags in twine they are able to play soccer on the dusty fields outside their schools.

Kenya’s football fan

Isaac Juma is not an ordinary soccer fan. Juma has come to be associated with football over the years in Kenya.

 The expressive 42-year-old father of ten features on television and radio stations whenever there is a match. He loves to entertain the crowds at the stadium with his dancing and singing. His body is a work of art, painted from head to toe in the colors and slogans of his team.

Children in the Muthare slum in Nairobi, Kenya can’t afford a real soccer ball so they make a plan. Searching for plastic bags at dump sites, they collect enough to make a soccer ball out of the bags and a ball of string. Soccer brings joy to their lives and ingenuity ensures they keep the joy alive.
